Perhaps they ended up with this problem precisely because they rushed?
- mtgx 10y agoThey did rush - they launched Note 7 a year ahead of its time (last year we had Note 5) when they were only supposed to release Note 6. That takes, dare I say, courage. (just a joke, they just skipped the number 6 to put it in line with the Galaxy S generation).
- madeofpalk 10y agoIn the same way that Windows 10 was rushed to be a year early because they 'skipped' Windows 9?
- Piskvorrr 10y agoPretty sure that one was to avoid a Windows Nein. (They are still striving for a Windows?Nein! situation given the FUBAR Anniversary Edition, albeit "by any other name")
- madeofpalk 10y agoI know - I was trying to use sarcasm to point how how marketing names don't really mean much in terms of product development and doesn't indicate anything here was rushed out the door.
- beanbragade 10y agoI think it was so users wouldn't follow "Windows 9x" tutorials thinking they would still work.
- nandhp 10y agoI think it was actually for the software that was doing that: if (osName.startsWith("windows 9")) https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=8397664 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=8397664
- Razengan 10y agoIt's more likely that they named it 7 to put it as a direct competitor to the iPhone 7 Plus.
- TazeTSchnitzel 10y agoThey named it 7 so it would line up with the S7.
