They are full of sugars too, for example this 100% Apple juice that I have is 28g of sugars per 240ml. But most fruit juices that they sell aren't really fruit juices and labels are really deceptive. For my kids, I mix fruit juices with equal part water to help reduce sugars.
Fruit juices are fruits with lots of the good stuff removed but I still consider fruits as desserts and not very healthy...
- maxerickson 10y agoThe US has specific regulations requiring fruit juices to declare what percentage of the product is fruit juice. http://www.fda.gov/Food/GuidanceRegulation/GuidanceDocumentsRegulatoryInformation/LabelingNutrition/ucm064872.htm http://www.fda.gov/Food/GuidanceRegulation/GuidanceDocuments... That doesn't mean that they aren't sweet, but the labeling should reliably state the fruit juice content.
- awqrre 10y agoThey do but usually the front of the label is a little deceiving and doesn't state the juice content, like "original 100% vitamin C" instead of something like "27% cranberry juice": http://blogs.longwood.edu/shakingitupatbreakfasttime/files/2014/03/Ocean-Spray-Cranberry-Juice.jpg http://blogs.longwood.edu/shakingitupatbreakfasttime/files/2... ... And I have seen worst... I'll take pictures next time I go to the grocery store... Also, many times you get juice of fruits that aren't even pictured on the label.
- maxerickson 10y agoI suppose my point is more that you don't need a great deal of information to understand how to buy fruit juice. Just buy the one with a clear claim about 100% fruit juice on the label. Given that the blends aren't necessarily worse than the pure juice nutritionally, I'm not sure what you do for the consumer that can't tell the difference between "100% Vitamin C" and "100% Fruit Juice".
- awqrre 10y agoI have another here, it says on the front label: 100% Apple juice, from concentrate, with added ingredient... http://www.bjs.com/wellsley-farms-apple-juice-96-oz-2-pk.product.3000000000000147031 http://www.bjs.com/wellsley-farms-apple-juice-96-oz-2-pk.pro... How can they say 100% apple juice with added ingredient (even if it is only vitamin C that they are adding in very small quantity...)
- elros 10y ago> I still consider fruits as desserts and not very healthy... Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but why wouldn't fruits as desserts be healthy?
- ptaipale 10y agoBecause there is too much sugar, i.e. too much unneeded energy, and additionally, that sugar is in a form that absorbs very quickly.
- astrange 10y agoWhy would fruit be healthy? They're living off the good reputation from the phrase "fruits and vegetables", but fructose isn't good for you and the vitamins are overrated.

- astrange 10y agoI appreciate that the Wikipedia link just says not to do it.
- tkyjonathan 10y ago>I still consider fruits as desserts and not very healthy... That is literally the stupidest thing I have ever heard about diet advice. Well done on being fully brainwashed.
