This is EXACTLY how we have it at our office (Series D startup). On a daily basis, I pend about half my time in the open area with my team and everyone else dropping by, and the rest in a room where I can be plugged in at peace to get some concentrated coding done. The office rooms range from 1-2 person rooms to 6-10 person rooms, and all of them can be used at any time of day by anyone in office. It's funny how I never have to stretch timelines or have communication issues with this setup. +1, would recommend.
