These kind of statements show a helplessness from old thought leaders. It shows that we can't continue to explain today's world by 1929 analogies. It smells like Black Swan. But maybe the Black Swan is just that we at some point realize, that we were cargo culting for the next gloom and doom to happen. Edit: if you downvote please have the sophistication and argue why.
