Ask HN: Drive traffic from Twitter replies?

I'm wondering if it's worthwhile trying to get traffic by putting links in twitter replies, e.g if a person with large following tweets something interesting and someone @replies with a link to a relevant webpage or blog, does anyone follow the link? I know it works in principle, just wondering if anyone can say from experience how useful this mechanism is for driving traffic to a website.
