It didn't. By there is hope that people will stop viewing NAT as a firewall. Also IPv6 link-local only addressing for home devices may help.

- tedunangst 10y agoWhatever benefit link local addresses offer can be realized today by not assigning a gateway. I think it's a long shot to hope that future devices will deliberately try to not be globally connected.
