The lack of vendor-agnostic hardware abstraction layer (drivers) in FreeRTOS was my main reason to use ChibiOS for my projects. Although, libopencm3 has progressed nicely, so FreeRTOS + libopencm3 could now be a decent alternative to ChibiOS.
