- vinceguidry 10y agoEven if all it does for them is add another marketing channel for Disney content, it could be well worth its price.
- Mahn 10y agoThe only thing I can picture is them "exploiting" Twitter to push new films and releases to their will, but the consequences of this would be disastrous for the future of Twitter. Honestly, at this point Twitter would be better off as a non-profit ala Wikipedia, but I guess it's too late for that.
- logfromblammo 10y agoEvery Disney media property cross-promotes every other Disney property. If Disney buys Twitter, every star in their stable will likely be required to tweet out a certain amount of content every day. Freshface McSongbird and Heartthrob McCleancut will tweet about going to see Rogue One in theaters, for instance.
- heroprotagonist 10y agoIf that's all they want from it, then they don't need to buy Twitter to gain the ability. Freshface McSongbird could be required to tweet without Disney having any ownership stake in the company. They could exploit the 'promoted tweets' more, but you could buy an awful lot of promoted tweets for less than 20bn.
- gumby 10y agoDisney is a conglomerate that doesn't just make movies and theme parks. They also own the ABC television network and ESPN (and I'm sure others). I assume if this rumor is true and not a stalking horse that they figure owning another channel to end users is more valuable than just sending their content through it. Since they can already use Twitter for free, I assume it's all about the analytics. But this is all a guess. I have to say that the Disney execs I've met have all been very smart and good at execution.
