Majority of new IT grads earning 150k? This can't be representative sample for US.
> this is from about 100 data points, members of the “Hackathon Hackers” Facebook group, in 2015.
What's the point of analyzing data from such narrow and unusual sample?
RE: how to get data about programmers salaries, I'd say try to check job postings, they usually say how much company offers.
- narrator 10y agoGlassdoor.Com is a pretty good source for salary information.
- asdf742 10y agoI just peeked and even Google and Apple don't come close in similarity to the data presented in the article.
- ffjffsfr 10y agoit's really difficult to get good salary information. glassdoor.com is nice but getting data from them will be pain (you probably cant crawl them). I was thinking about writing some spider parsing Stack Overflow careers or "who is hiring" HN threads. But if you get data in this way you only get salaries offered and not salaries actually paid. I guess salaries paid might differ from what is offered. There was a spreadsheet so maybe OP could check this https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1a1Df6dg2Pby1UoNlZU2l0FEykKsQKttu7O6q7iQd2bU/edit#gid=1023506792 https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1a1Df6dg2Pby1UoNlZU2l... https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=11331223 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=11331223 I wonder if this will confirm ideas about bimodality.
- personjerry 10y agoDoes 150k include bonuses and stock? In my experience, 150k base pay sounds awfully high
- base698 10y agoIt's about average for LA at the moment. Not new grads mind you but 5+ years experience.
- flareback 10y ago> What's the point of analyzing data from such narrow and unusual sample? I have to agree. It seems like a really small sample.
