I still recall switching from AltaVista :D
- jagermo 10y agoFireball for me. I remember the icq chat with a friend who told me to try this cool new thing without ads!
- zakki 10y agoAnd now Google push all possible ads to us :(
- karakal 10y agoA couple of ads (clearly marked as such) at the top of the results page are "all possible ads"? Come on.
- ekianjo 10y agoAndroid is full of ads. Thats a google product.
- zakki 10y ago1. I replied comment that said without ad in the past 2. Google product is not only Google Search 3. Wherever you surf you will see ads provided by Google. Most of the time.
- Doctor_Fegg 10y agoIn a new Safari window (private browsing, 1920x1080 screen), for the search query "holiday cottages Wales", I don't get any organic results above the fold. The first one is at 1380px down the page.
- Intermernet 10y agoVery OT, but if you're actually looking for one, I can recommend https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/12448783 https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/12448783 . My partner and I stayed there a few months ago and it was wonderful!
- flinty 10y agoInteresting. I see the same thing on safari. Another interesting thing is most of the ads are also in the top 10 of the organic results.
- wslh 10y agoThe AltaVista search engine most powerful operator was NEAR, it helped you to rank the results until Google came to the scene. Google much later added the * and proximity operators [1]. - drdeadringer 10y agoHotbot for me. I even had email with them.
- yolesaber 10y agoAnybody remember Dogpile? That was what I used. The aggregating of results from different engines was super useful. Hilariously enough, the site is up and running now and still offers pretty good results.
