Oh it definitely is! The reason why food preserves so well in the States is because of all the additives. Most US food if prepackaged and processed, its' all about hassle-free eating. Preserves well, easy to prepare, looks good etc.
All the shit in the food in the US is really unhealthy. The reason it could happen is because of corporate interests meddling with regulatory bodies. The US government is letting it happen.
