I doubt the experience is better than iPhone development from a tools perspective. I often feel like I'm participating in a Google Labs experiment. If you can deal with some rough edges and lack of direct developer support, you will be okay. Developing games seems to be relatively difficult. Java has GC issues and the NDK APIs don't support most application UI features.
