The problem with current approaches is that they are trying to parameterize higher order functions of highly evolved organisms. But real intelligence is an emergent property of self-replicating organisms, so you aren't going to have true artificial intelligence until you have real synthetic life. Maybe instead of simulating a mammalian brain distinguishing between shapes we should be building yeast.
- pas 10y agoSure, but it seems we have many rather distinct faculties that are almost preprogrammed. We have templates for signal processing circuits (pretty low level) and theory of mind (woah), and consciousness, self-awareness. It's not just a random network and woah it's alive! Sure, every brain is _very_ unique, but not that different structurally. What's emergent is - probably - the icing on the cake, a small part of our identity, our very mind, and naturally the symbiotic relationship between our mind and its host, the brain.
