We should try giving useful items to welfare recipients instead of just money. It would be a great way to insure that the support was going to the right things. Why not give kids a back to school kit? This could be huge for kids in situations where no one will buy them the things they need for school. This happens a lot more than most people know.
- d_e_solomon 10y agoThat's a pretty controversial statement. Many countries are experimenting with purely cash based welfare instead of in-kind. - patja 10y agoThe world abounds with people so full of hubris that they are firmly convicted they have the answers to others' needs and problems. Why not give kids a back to school kit? Because maybe they need food or socks or medicine more than they need a protractor or a PeeChee. If you want to help them give them money. Most people can figure out what they need for themselves.
