There's something that confuses me: If a lawsuit has actually been filed, then there should be some sort of tracking number (case number, docket number, etc.)

There's something that confuses me: If a lawsuit has actually been filed, then there should be some sort of tracking number (case number, docket number, etc.) associated with it. Why didn't the article have that number, so that interested people could track the status of the case on their own?
