Seattle Tech Vets to Propose Driverless Stretch of Interstate 5
- dmckeon 10y agoprecis: Seattle to Vancouver, 10 year phase in, starting with HOV lanes. Self-driving vehicles 80 hours/week - M-F 4am-8pm; overnight (8pm-4am) & weekends still open to human drivers.
- totesraunch 10y agoI wonder how they propose to solve the issue of people driving their vehicles through Washington without the use of I-5. Am I expected to hire a self-driving truck to haul me and my vehicle through the state in order to reach Canada? Seems like a government-backed money making scheme by Amazon/Microsoft to me.
- GFK_of_xmaspast 10y agoThe only real alternative I'm coming up with while still staying west of the mountains is crossing at Abbotsford/Sumas and taking WA-9 down to I-405 which is a horrible idea in all sorts of ways. (The article also mentions 'carpool lanes', I'm wondering when the last time the proposers went very far north because even after decades of being extended they stop in Everett)
