I did this for a (not very popular) Eclipse IDE autocomplete set for a certain Lua-based game engine. I updated to 0.9.2d and forgot about it (stopped using the engine), and someone came in with a PR for 0.10.0. I made a couple of notes on the PR, and gave the guy commit access. He cleaned it up, and has been rebuilding occasionally when new minor versions of the API definitions come in. The vast majority of people are pretty nice. They aren't assholes. They're just people who have the same issues you had to build the project in the first place, and want to help.
