You make it sound as though we're not incarcerating them already... we are, we just use prisons instead of a facility where any kind of treatment could ever occ

    You don't need to, just look at countries that actually take care of their mentally ill instead of warehousing them or tossing them on the streets. You don't need to come up with a solution, you just need to learn about the ones that have existed for years. Are they perfect? No, but as I often see here in relation to new technologies with far less at stake and far less of a proven track record, "Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good."
