Although Iran has a military presence in Syria and an uneasy relationship with many of the countries in the region, there has not been any fights within Iranian borders since the Iran-Iraq war ended [1]. Maybe the author was thinking about Iraq. [1] Well, there is the war on drugs and some separatist movements, but nothing enough to warrant calling any region war-torn.
