Ask HN: How to seek mentorship?

One of oft neglected part in my work is seeking mentorship. What is the best approach while asking for mentorship ? If any of you were in my position : how did you seek mentorship or who have done mentoring themselves please share some insights to mentorship meetings ? I feel a good mentor can help navigate me through a set of problems (tech, non-tech). I'm interested to know about hiring, handling IP, avoiding any pitfalls by explaining current happenings, top do's and dont's while building your first product.
