Why? Sometimes they break, by wear or by accident. Other times I find that I made a mistake in buying them because they are uncomfortable or badly designed (chord too long, clicker placed so low I can't use it if I'm wearing a coat). I don't buy new headphones every other year as a matter of principle. It just seems to have been the case for a good number of years. Good headphones last tens of years. You must use yours differently than I. Or the ones you buy are more than just semi-expensive.
