I'm a weird use case: I don't use the audio jack on my Macbook Pro. As someone who still relishes their 10-year-old Apogee Duet audio interface on their 2015 Macbook Pro (Firewire 400 -> Firewire 800 -> Thunderbolt), I wonder if I can convert Thunderbolt now to USB-C? :)
- sneak 10y agoIs there USB3-FireWire yet?
- ropiku 10y agoI doubt that's possible since they are totally different design: Firewire is daisy-chained while USB hub, Firewire has DMA while USB doesn't.
- AstralStorm 10y agoUSB does have DMA. In fact, OHCI standard mandates it. The hub topology is a problem as some devices ignore bandwidth allocation for isochronous transfers.
- SysArchitect 10y agoThunderbolt 3 is rolled into the USB-C connector. So now USB-C will carry PCIe and USB 3... http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/io/thunderbolt/thunderbolt-technology-consumer.html http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/io/thunderbolt/thunde... So yes, "USB-C" will run your Firewire 800 ;-)
- some-guy 10y agoGood to know! I guess I have another 10 years with this thing.
