MBP is most widely used pro audio laptop. Some people I know do simple mixing without plugging an external audio interface, just using built-in audio. It seems that Apple does not care about those people anymore.
- kennell 10y agoMixing via a 3.5mm headphone jack is not "pro audio"
- whatsmyip 10y agoNeither is monitoring via Bluetooth.
- kranner 10y agoIt's not a plain analog headphone socket; it has an optical line out as well. http://i.imgur.com/V9QbH7I.jpg http://i.imgur.com/V9QbH7I.jpg http://www.apple.com/shop/product/H7048ZM/A/belkin-6-digital-toslink-optical-audio-cable-with-line-out-adapter http://www.apple.com/shop/product/H7048ZM/A/belkin-6-digital...
- te_chris 10y agoIt's also a reasonable quality DAC and more than good enough to do work on the move with. Your statement makes no sense, unless you measure "proness" by the girth of a connector?
- sneak 10y agoAdding a USB-to-3.5mm audio interface is $10. "Those people" spending several grand on a new laptop can make their audio-out cable 5" longer. Apple still cares about them, obviously, and will happily sell them computers, which they will happily still buy.
- cr1895 10y agoPro audio people probably won't be using a cheap in-line DAC.
- nileshtrivedi 10y agoUSB supports analog I/O so DAC could well be on board.
- eddieh 10y agoI do pro audio. Nobody serious is using the built-in audio interface. If you're recording, you're probably using some hardware from Apogee. If your DJing, you're probably using some hardware from Native Instruments.
- yazmeya 10y agoWhile it's true you cannot get away without using an external interface for recording audio, there are many other mobile "pro audio" tasks which can be done using just the headphone out - editing, sequencing, sound design, playback, etc.
- BinaryIdiot 10y agoWhy is asking a question to existing customers "Apple does not care about those people anymore"? I don't understand this sentiment as their actions show the exact opposite of your statement. Is this meant to just be a flippant comment to garner upvotes on HN? I don't get it.
