Ask HN: Can you share how you sought mentorship or mentored

One of neglected part in my work is seeking mentorship. I feel a mentor could have been good help to me to think through some technical choices and direction of career. I'm planning to seek mentorship with some one who has built successful products from ground up and I worked for him only for a short time. I've spoken to him only couple of times and it's been couple of years now. Now I'm thinking of writing a mail to him and ask for a coffee or lunch or show up in his free time. I'm interested to know about hiring, IP, about approach to product building mindset, avoiding any pitfalls by explaining current happenings, top do's and dont's in a given scenario. But I have never done seeking mentorship and tad nervous. Can you please share your experiences on how you sought mentorship or who have done mentoring themselves share some insights to these meetings.
