I would be absolutely floored if it wasn't the same tech behind the scenes. In that sense, they've taken something that was actually working with G+ [highlighted in blog post above] and are taking a shot at leveraging that. I really like that they were able to push this internally using a 'white label' process [speculation]. In big corps everyone has the disease that their name and (internal) brand has to be on everything.
