I think my issue is that I don't like seeing the state making more and more decisions for people. Like I said, I am sympathetic to the need though, and am a donor, hence my ambivalence. And from the article, it looks like the yes vote came down to one vote (unless I misread), so it's likely going to be a close one. Also, for the record, I'm in the US, so this is an entirely intellectual exercise for me.
