I think a P2P social network that positioned itself as a counter-cultural movement could do pretty well. People are willing to put up with a lot to be part of something cool.

Funny enough, this is exactly how Facebook first marketed itself: only for students of Harvard, and then only for college students. Once it had enough on-board members, it pivoted and started allowing the general public, until today where even your grandmother uses it.
