- okket 10y ago"the guy" is Brendan Gregg, you might know him from his work on Linux performance tools. http://www.brendangregg.com/linuxperf.html http://www.brendangregg.com/linuxperf.html
- nickpsecurity 10y agoI only knew him from screaming at hard disks. Now I know he was behind some great work on performance tools. Thanks for the link. :)
- toomuchtodo 10y agoVibration is the enemy of spinning disk!
- astrodust 10y agoI remember trying to burn CD-Rs back in the day when 1x burners were still thousands of dollars and there was a club underneath the office doing a sound check at the same time. The vibrations would toast every burn, which was annoying since it took about forty minutes to burn each one. Shades of trying to do laser holography where everything has to remain perfectly inert for seconds on end.
- godzillabrennus 10y agoThanks for that! If seen this years ago but your right I had never forgotten it. Such a shame that Sun was acquired by Oracle.
- michaelcampbell 10y ago> Such a shame that Sun was acquired by Oracle. For many reasons, but what makes you mention it here; what's the relevance?
- godzillabrennus 10y agoThe man screaming into the servers worked for Sun.
- michaelcampbell 10y agoAh, I see; I missed that bit. Thanks.
