Instead we use github issues with color-coded and prefixed labels (e.g. "type:bug", "comp:auth",... with all type labels blue, all component labels green, ...) and waffle.io for a sortable kanban view. A few big FOSS projects do this (e.g. https://github.com/angular/angular.js/issues https://github.com/angular/angular.js/issues). Pros: best possible github integration, fast, lightweight. Cons: none for us. There's nothing in Jira that I miss, at least.
