So… why would I use any of them? All (?) OSes animate then anyway, and in a much less obnoxious way.

  That's a question you should answer yourself, seriously :) Depends on your project and what you trying to achieve.

  Do you want to : ( ) launch nuclear missile ( ) send flowers You probably want to really draw attention to which radio button is selected so the user doesn't absentmindedly choose the wrong one.
