  Both R (https://www.rforexcelusers.com/make-pivottable-in-r/ https://www.rforexcelusers.com/make-pivottable-in-r/) and Python (http://pandas.pydata.org/pandas-docs/stable/reshaping.html#pivot-tables http://pandas.pydata.org/pandas-docs/stable/reshaping.html#p...) can do pivot tables.

  Check Power Pivot if you just want an Excel interface to lots of data. I posted elsewhere in this thread about it, but the fun demo is to load up a dataset with a largest table of several hundred million rows. This is still quite snappy on a typical desktop machine.
