I find people come to the defense (although you aren't attacking her - just noting how her privilege lends to her lack of self-awareness) of people of higher means in order to feel less guilt about their own privileges/upbringing/good fortune. I assume this is some coping mechanism because people feel attacked when you point out their opinion may be influenced by their affluence and perhaps not all their success is their own.
