Hide your email and make it questionably suspicious - ShadyEmail.com
- zokier 17y agoIt would be better if it wouldn't ask for my real email. Disposable emails ftw.
- thinkbohemian 17y agoYou can always put in a junk email if you only want to send, but there is just something magical about hitting the reply-to button on an email from jiggaboo-skeezXXX and having it go to a real person. I'm the developer by the way.
- carbocation 17y agoAssuming it follows convention, you could give it your.email+SPAM@gmail.com and then just flag messages sent to +SPAM as likely badness.
- thinkbohemian 17y agoYep, that should work just fine. Despite the less than reputable words it generates, the back-end is reputable and powered through WhySpam.Me. You can delete you shady email at any time, and we won't send you unsolicited messages or sell your info. Don't take my word, though...put us to the test!
- khafra 17y agoAh, but now you _know_ the trick, and you can remove the "\+[^@]+" before mailing your spam, you evil, evil spammer!
- thinkbohemian 17y agohttp://xkcd.com/208/ http://xkcd.com/208/ . Why i only use services that obscure email addresses when I find a questionable site.
- newman314 17y agoProblem is many sites, Facebook for example, do not accept the +SPAM as a valid email address even though it's permitted per RFC. What we really need is a mechanism that will provide truly disposable email addresses in a secure, transparent manner (kind of a 1Password for emails). This would also go a long way in working around systems like Rapleaf trying to tie emails together. I posed a question to HN not that long about interest in such a service but it did not seem to garner much interest. http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1139697 http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1139697 Guess Scheiner is right about privacy not mattering much to people when it's not front and center.
- thinkbohemian 17y agoWhySpam.Me does provide this type of functionality. It gives you "abcdgoldfish@whyspam.me" which forwards to your real address. You can generate as many as you want. So if someone doesn't allow the + notation then you can generate a new email address.
- steamer25 17y agoI have thought that what we need is to revamp the smtp standard a bit to include some PKI/certification. I.e., if I want to perform a write operation on your SMTP server, I have to authenticate. You can give me a certificate that will allow me to do so but you can set expirations on it, audit it and may revoke it at any time.
- thinkbohemian 17y agoNot too long ago someone was kicking around the idea of replacing the IMAP standard: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1101693 http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1101693 There might be people interested in re-vamping SMTP as well...
- shrikant 17y agohttp://scr.im http://scr.im works very well for e-mail address obscuring.
