it doesn't cost 10k/month to have an ocean view in santa monica. there are smaller units in the 500-1000 square foot range for a lot less than half of that -- i live in one. there are lots of "normal" old 1950s/1960s style apartments with ocean views, it's not just the ridiculous marble-clad ultra-lux units that everyone sees when they drive by.
