Higher PR != Higher Traffic
- cperciva 17y agoIsn't PR one of the factors Google uses in deciding which pages to show for searches? I thought that was the whole point.
- Frazzydee 17y agoI think that's only part of it. It also determines how much links on that page are "worth."
- patio11 17y agoPR is a trailing indicator of negligible importance these days, but is retained mostly by Google for public relations reasons and by SEOs because it communicates the concept of link juice/trust rank in a fashion that normal people can clearly grasp. ("Sites have a Magic Number associated with them and bigger Magic Numbers are better! I'll make your Magic Number bigger!!! Pay me money.")
- ddemchuk 17y agopatio11 nailed it right on the head. It is one of the factors, but it's one of MANY factors. The most useful part of Page Rank nowadays is for when you want to either a) sell your site or b) sell links on your site.
- ntoshev 17y agoYes, if you refer to the original concept by Google (the element corresponding to your page from the eigenvector on the link matrix of the web). The understanding of page rank as it has been dumbed down by bad SEOs is mostly irrelevant. A slightly less dumbed down version: google rank score = page rank * how well a query matches your content tells you that it doesn't matter how good page rank you have if you don't have content to match the query against.
