I think the parent meant "east coast region". 7 hr drive to the beach sounds lovely compared to my 12-14 hours.

    Why would you? The midwest isn't anywhere near there - it doesn't extend much (if at all) into the Western half of the US. Do you often hear people call Vegas "the West Coast"?
