The article isn't bad but this part made me shake my head:
> Gottlieb writes, “physical bodies are . . . not quite what they seem, but are only appearances somehow thrown up by monads” seems less extravagant in the light of contemporary string theory, which holds that everything that exists is the product of vibrating one-dimensional objects
Poor string theory used to justify such nonsense..
- jomamaxx 10y agoString Theory is probably nonsense, so it's in good company.
- AstralStorm 10y agoMostly not nonsense, since it fits most or all experimental physics, just the mathematic description is quite extravagant and interpretation is even more alien than quantum physics or general relativity, which are already highly mind-boggling.
- azemetre 10y agoI believe they were inferring that string theory isn't exactly falsifiable which teeters on the edge of poor science.
- ZeroFries 10y agoWhat nonsense?
