Or we will remember 2016 as yet another year where our salaries remained stagnant while expectations and responsibilities were increased by 100%?

- tobltobs 10y agoThis would imply that that security haven't been relevant for "DevOps" until now.
- pop8row9 10y agoI disagree that this is implied by his comment.
- somenomadicguy 10y agoI mean to imply more that every time we have a new paradigm shift in titles, job responsibilities get increased. For example, it's not enough to be a backend developer, now you must be a full stack developer, so that we can hire fewer front-end devs. It's not enough to be a DevOps engineer, now you must be a FullStackDevOpsEngineer. There's this concept that out there is some superman engineer who can somehow be an expert in everything. Security is hard. Conforming to security best practices is one thing. Being a security expert is in itself an entire career field.
- atorralb 10y agoYou are right! IT is going to kill itself with the pressure it puts its engineers. I for one stopped worrying and taking low end positions such as tech support / customer support instead of my experience in software developement. If I apply for a job nowadays they want me to do tech and business operations along with software engineering, and I hate taking homework home so I choose low level positions since I don't want to die of a stroke and have more time for myself
