I don't think anyone is really a fan of regex(es?) but the task they are for is actually a rather complicated one and, let's be honest, they are pretty good at it. I agree that it would be nice to see better tools to understand and create new regex but I think that they are actually fine on their own. They might be ugly and everyone had a point where they thought they were just some sort of magic impossible to understand but I think that there is a point where they just... click. After that they can still be ugly and messy but you at least understand that there is a purpose to it.
