I'm a recruiter known for being critical of recruiter behavior, and when people claim that recruiters are mostly worthless to them, I encourage them to simply use recruiters for this kind of information. An experienced recruiter, specifically an agency recruiter with a wide variety of clients, should be able to give you a fairly solid expectation on your marketability and market value. Instead of wasting the opportunity, a reply like this can be quite useful. If the recruiter doesn't reply, don't respond to them again.
