There's precedence for this already in the form of Lumber Liquidators. But to use a more-prominent example: the researchers who disclosed VW's diesel efficiency issues could've made $1B+ from that investigation:

- jessaustin 10y agoThey would have had to have been careful to do so in untraceable fashion. VW would have been all too happy to divert attention to the researchers' "greed" rather than VW's if there had been a whiff of impropriety.
