There is a long lineage of gurus and students (as far as I understand it, this is academic lineage, not genetic) in the Hindu Upanishad, Brihadaranyaka: Chapter II, Section VI [1], ending with Brahman as the ultimate teacher. There may be similar things in other scriptures as well.
