Do you know of an alternative that can host an instance of FreeBSD?
- anilgulecha 10y agoI'm familiar only with AWS, and it supports FreeBSD.
- eropple 10y ago"Supports" is a strong phrase. Colin Percival creates FreeBSD AMIs. They work mmmmmostly as you might expect, except there's no cloud-init (instead it uses a gizmo that cperciva wrote), but AWS doesn't support it--that's a community thing.
- cyphar 10y agoI believe Vultr offers FreeBSD (and custom ISO) hosting at about the same price and offers storage servers too. Their documentation and remote console tools leave a lot to be desired though (I wanted to install openSUSE and ended up resorting to manually entering the iPXE commands at a console to get the damn thing installed).
- nicolas_t 10y agoTheir support also leaves a lot to be desired. Had a persistent network problem due to a misconfiguration of their system and it took two weeks of back and forth before they really looked into it.

- po1nter 10y agoAre Vuktr and DigitalOcean related in any way? their websites look really similar down to the animation that shows you how to create a new droplet/server.
- nik736 10y agoNo, Vultr is a spin off of choopa. DO and them have nothing to do with each other.
- dumbsecreport 10y agoNo, but they've always ripped off the site like that, either on purpose or not. It was worse when the company just came out.
- pilsetnieks 10y agoLooking at their DNS setup workflow[1] and API functions[2] I don't see any step where you would have to verify domain ownership - which is this whole thing is about, isn't it? - cyphar 10y agoI was providing an example of a host that provides FreeBSD support. To be clear, I don't think Vultr is a good host so I'm not really sure why I mentioned them to be honest...
- mattbee 10y agoSure, Bytemark Cloud https://www.bytemark.co.uk/cloud https://www.bytemark.co.uk/cloud will let you install from a CD image if you need to, and we FreeBSD works fine.
- icebraining 10y agoTransIP is similar to DO (except they've had large storage for years) and they support FreeBSD. I've been a happy customer for a couple of years now, never had any problems. https://www.transip.eu/ https://www.transip.eu/
- jbverschoor 10y agoYeah me too.. However, transip only has a dutch dc.
