Optical Disk Drive Products Antitrust Settlement
- e40 10y agoSo they're just going to trust everyone that applies for it? No receipts? That's going to go well...
- liareye 10y agoJust like the LCD settlement. https://lcdclass.com/ https://lcdclass.com/ IIRC my check was close to $1,000. (no lying on the submission either) Hope you got your LCD check too! (if eligible)
- tbirdz 10y agoI don't think the number of people willing to commit perjury for $10 is enough to result in any significant amount of fraudulent claims.
- calinet6 10y agoAlso consider the statistics of being able to actually reach the full number of affected consumers in the class -- the fraudulent claims are probably representative of 10 times more that couldn't be reached but are deserving, and because the primary reason for the suit is punitive, not reward -- it makes little difference who gets the funds in the end.
- dangrossman 10y agoThat's how most large class action settlements work. Would the cost of systems and staff to process and verify 10 million receipts be lower than the cost of paying out some smaller number of undeserved claim checks? Probably not when the reward is small. http://www.classactionrebates.com/ http://www.classactionrebates.com/
- NickM 10y agoWhenever I see a settlement website like this, I always wonder how I can really trust it. Is there some easy way I can verify this isn't just a spammer's clever ploy to collect peoples' emails?
- liareye 10y agoYes, submit a claim, and see if a check comes in the mail. Deposit it in your bank account. See if it clears. If you get this far, it's not a scam.
- ourmandave 10y agoUnless it's one of those "by cashing this $5 check you agree to all sorts of asshatery in the fine print."
- breakingcups 10y agoCAREFUL! A cleared check doesn't mean it actually cleared and you'll be on the hook for depositing a fraudulent check. If a bank tells you it cleared it means nothing. - heywire 10y agoOddly enough, my workplace's McAfee Web Gateway filters this as a spam site.
- cowsandmilk 10y agolook up the case in PACER and see if everything matches? This page gives you a court and case number, so that should be enough.
- revelation 10y agoSend snail mail then.
- S_Daedalus 10y agoThat was my first reaction, then I realized that for $10 I don't actually care to find out or risk anything. I'm sure that it's more a clever ploy by some lawyers to get very rich however.
- lilrayray 10y agoseems legit - I'm pretty sure its electronic, no place to input an address
- yuhong 10y agoOf course, I dislike the settlements that comes long after the products has been sold.
