I'm a (young) consultant in a high demand and specialized subfield. Based in one of the top-10 COL cities in the US. $150k / yr plus 2% of profits. I tend to only spend about 50% of my time in my home-city. TBH I think I'm being underpaid by about $75k; if I were able to live somewhere cheap I would find my compensation about right, but I have a lot of ties to the place I'm currently living. There are other things I find frustrating (e.g., few resources, sometimes precarious whether we'll make payroll, not enough mentorship). I am currently negotiating with some of the really big employers in the field, to see if I can get up to around $250.
