Well the ads can always be included server side, but advertisers don't want that due to not being able to track.
- blahi 10y agoDon't worry. We are getting there. Everyone will be authed everywhere and advertisers will sync with vendors. That's game over. It is very amusing how uninformed commenters are in all of these threads. Claiming advertising dead.
- icebraining 10y agoThat doesn't really explain anything; how will auth solve the problem for advertisers?
- tomjen3 10y agoRight click and block. Or disable javascript - which I did in my other browser after one too many sites popped up with "you need to disable your ad block on our site because we are fucking special".
- dredmorbius 10y agoMost server-side ads still leave some traces: * Class or ID names. Even if obscured, they're different. * Banner sizes. Standardisation of sales blocks means dimensions to latch onto. * URLs. Stuff that links back through tracking systems is blockable. * If nothing else, AI training for "does this look like an ad" and nuking it.
