JSON is just dictionaries and lists (and strings and numbers and nulls) this is pretty easy to express in dynamically typed languages and not that hard in statically typed languages if you give up on a bit of (static) typing. I don't see any reason why it should be limited to a subset of javascript, there are some good reasons for not changing it all though.
