I have started to write a novel using almost exactly this setup. It's encouraging to hear it worked out for someone. So far I've been using plain markdown and just rendering it to HTML for a pretty view, but with plans to turn it into e-pub later. As mentioned in the article, the controlled sync is what makes this beat Google Docs. I set up Vim and Mercurial on my phone, so I can sync and edit the text anywhere. Fun tools to play with!
