This is an excellent implementation of variable valve gear timing that external combustion steam locomotives have had for about a century and a half. Impressive to see it put into an internal combustion engine. Edit: looking at the posted image, they change the stroke depth of the power linkage. That plus valve timings let them customize the entire combustion cycle.
