You disengage and don't necessarily convince anyone of anything (i.e. "win").

It is arguably common enough problem for reasonable definitions of common in its context. Hackable cars across the industry shows that people still haven't learned their lessons. The fact that people haven't died as often in these situations shouldn't have a bearing on arguments against closed systems if flaws are only potentially fatal.
